Isabela ll

Anyone travel on the Isabela recently? Planning a journey late December. I’m a little concerned about motion sickness on a small ship. Also, since it’s an older ship and hasn’t been refurbished recently any feedback on cabin conditions or overall ship appearance would be helpful.
Thank you.

  • Some people who cruised on the Isabela II speak highly of it, although they report that the cabins are small and the ship is old.

When we went to the Galapagos we were on the Silversea Silver Origin and it was a very nice ship. Modern and well appointed.
Here's some pictures of the Silver Origin from our blog - https://www.mikeandjudytravel.com/2021-1Galapagos-04.htm#SilverOrigin

  • We have been on Isabela II twice and really like the ship. It is old but gets updates regularly. There 20 cabins all the same except one. They are small and basic because it is an expedition ship. The crew are excellent and you feel very safe with them. There are no room keys. If you leave a sweater on the bed, when you come back it will be neatly folded! The other good thing is there is no need to dress for dinner, it’s super casual. So you can just take your safari type gear.
We are going to Galapagos in the summer on the Bridges tour, it’s a bigger ship which I believe has up to 90 passengers. I’m sure the cabins are nicer, but I think I may miss the intimacy of the smaller ship. After all you are rarely in your cabin except for sleeping. I’ll do a comparison when we return.
