  • I wish I could go with there too, I haven't been there before. Wishing you good luck for your trip. Don't forget to share about your beautiful tour
  • Hi, just did the best of Ireland tour three weeks ago. If you are staying at The Old Ground, you'll be in the town of Ennis and not Shannon. Your Tauck director will leave a welcome package for you at the reception desk upon check in.
You will find a list of things you can do in and around Ennis. We enjoyed just walking around the town and taking pictures. Hope you enjoy your tour as much as we did!
  • I recommend Bunratty Castle. In the center of Bunratty village by the N18 Road between Limerick and Ennis. Very close to Shannon. The castle is nice to see as well as shopping in the village. Have fun !

evybaby! Are you in Ireland right now? If yes then I also recommend you to must visit the Bunratty Castle and Craggaunowen during your tour to Shannon. I hope you will enjoy there a lot because both are amazing attractions for sightseeing tour. Here I am m going to share some images of both attractions.

Thanks for the info- a few more questions:

Google maps show Bunratty to be 25 km / 20 min. from Ennis where the tour stays. I assume you stayed in Shannon which is much closer. How did you get there, did you rent a car? How long did you spend there, did you make a day of it? Did you also spend time at the Folk Park? How was that?

We don't go until next fall but are weighing a couple of options- spending a few days in London first, or going to Ireland a day or two early. The Best of Ireland tour info says the tour starts at 1:00 pm, unlike other Tauck tours which typically start at 6:00pm with a welcome dinner, so that doesn't leave much time to do things on our own on Day 1, other than wander around Ennis. Time available for side trips on the previous day will depend on when our flight arrives. I suppose to do Bunratty right, we would need to arrive early enough to have a full day to explore on our own.

This thread should be moved to the Great Britain & Ireland forum.

p.s. Based on their earlier posts, I suspect both Tiffany01 and emmyjon are trolls/spammers.
  • Alan, I didn't visit Bunratty before my Tauck tour I actually had visited during a previous trip to Ireland. I would say a half day would cover everything. It is all lovely but very touristy. Ennis is a beautiful little town but after two hours you have seen it all. If you are coming in a day earlier look into how you can get to Bunratty .
