Peru Questions

We’re excited to be heading on our Hidden Galapagos and Peru trip in a few days. We received our Tauck duffel bags for the night in Machu Picchu. I understand our big suitcases go to Cusco ahead of us. Do we bring our usual carry on case with us and the duffel for that night or only the duffel? Also, any thoughts on which excursion you liked for the day in Cusco? We have a choice of a highlands visit or a city tour. Both sound nice.

  • Only the duffel to the Belmond Sanctuary. We didn’t have excursions in Cusco.

  • We just returned a couple of weeks ago. We took the Tauck duffel and our small backpack. We took the Highlands excursion which was at the highest elevation but by then you are acclimated. You take a small bus back past where you came in the night before to a remote neighborhood on a hilltop. Wonderful locals welcome you to a home where they have nice bathrooms. You dance, grind salsa, learn about farming, a local high priest gives presentation overlooking beautiful valley, go inside for a very nice lunch with a surprise that I won’t disclose, then they sing you off to your bus back to the hotel. We really enjoyed it. The group that did the market excursion said they had fun but more geared toward shopping. So it depends on your preferences. Enjoy this fantastic journey. It is a very busy and physical trip but very worth it!
