You never know who you might meet on a Tauck Tour.
On the death of the iconic Jane Goodall this week, we were reminded about when we were on the Tauck Bridges Safari tour in July 2024 when we discovered Jane was at the hotel by the pool talking with a group of documentary people. They were filming in the grounds of the hotel. My husband was able to have a conversation with her while I looked on. I’ve never seen him so excited about meeting someone. He has always loved wildlife, as have I. We both watched so many wildlife documentaries from childhood onwards. Our ambition now…to bump into David Attenborough.😀

In the Edinburgh hotel, I rode the elevator with Mark Milley (former chairman of the Joint Chiefs). He was there to be Master of Ceremonies at the Military Tattoo.
On the Crown Jewel tour in Switzerland we were asked to stand to one side while a dignitary entered the hotel. It was the Prime Minister of India.
I was also in a hotel with Jane Goodall in Africa, but we did not meet. Having flown for the airlines for 28 years I met many people of note … some nice and some not so nice. Stevie Wonder was probably the nicest man I ever met, and Robert Wagner was great and appreciative. I once accidentally locked Sharon Stone in the first class lavatory. She was very nice when I let her out. (The lavatory door and the cockpit door overlapped and I was standing in the door to the cockpit.). I have probably flown at least twenty celebrities and most were very nice people.
I was so saddened by the loss of Jane Goodall. Such a selfless individual she was. Her research and findings will surely live on.
Several years ago I watched Sir Attenborough’s documentary on Jumbo the elephant. It left me in tears, especially when learning how cruel P. T. Barnum was to him.
During safari in South Africa, I was in the receiving line at The Royal Livingstone Hotel and met the Vice President of Zambia. It was quite the procession to witness.
