Normandy, Brittany, Paris, the Loire in April -- what to bring?

Any advice on what to bring-clothes, purse/bag? Laundry?

  • What clothes to bring: it's likely to be cool temps and rain so bring what you want for that. Comfortable walking shoes. At least one nice outfit which can be a pair of dress slacks, 2-3 nice tops to go with them and a pair of flats. Basically what clothing you are comfortable wearing and that you can adjust to the weather conditions as needed.

Purse/bag??? Less baggage is better and must follow Tauck's restrictions which are available on their website and in your final tour documents. Purse again is what you prefer. I take a small cross body bag from Travel Pro that has anti-theft features built in. Mine is big enough to hold my phone, passport, money, cards, and a few things like lip gloss. Plus it is easy to wear under a jacket. Pickpockets are real especially in Paris.

Laundry? Yes the hotels provide laundry services and they will be expensive. You'll also want to make sure they can get your items back in time before moving to a new hotel. Otherwise sink laundry is your main option. Or easier still, pack smart and don't rely on laundry. Plenty of resources on the internet on how to pack light - websites, youtube videos, etc. I can easily pack for a 2 week tour in one standard sized checked bag and one carryon. You're on a tour, not participating in a fashion show. Nobody cares if you wear the same items multiple times. They likely aren't even noticing.

  • April will be cool but you may get a warmer spring day. Check the extended forecast before you leave. Dress in layers. You must bring a rain jacket(too windy on the coast for an umbrella and the coastal weather can be unpredictable) which can also serve as windbreaker. Hat and gloves since the tours is outside a significant portion of the time. There is limited send out laundry service at some of the locations, if so give it to the front desk as soon as you arrive so you can have it back late the next day. You can do some items in your room as well but also do that the first day you arrive at the new hotel so it has drying time. Small cross body bag for your outings(pacsafe has an excellent selections.) We bring a packable tote or small backpack on the bus with things we may need for the day or a place to dump layers as the day warms up. The bus most likely will have a charging port(USB type A) but a small battery charger always comes in handy. You will need nicer clothes but not fancy for some of the dinners.
