Air travels in South Africa

Any issues with luggage on smaller flights within South Africa? I was actually surprised with carry on size.

We will also be flying from Victoria Falls into Johanberg, and then heading back to the US. We have a 4 hour+layover. We will not be staying an extra day at the end tour. Anyone had an problems with this?

Thanks ahead for any insight.

  • You will be happy with the four hour layover in Jonerg, especially if you are flying business. JNB offers great shopping. The United Lounge there has been updated and is very comfortable with good food and drink. Also, the four hour layover provides a comfortable window just in case your flight from Vic Falls is delayed. Have fun on this great tour!

After the Elegant Adventure tour, we flew KLM out of Joburg with around 4 hours awaiting our flight. Do not pack anything enticing in your checked luggage, particularly any electronics.

  • We are taking this tour in June and will stay overnight at the Intercontinental Hotel at Johannesburg airport when we return from Vic Falls. This way we will leave the next day in the early afternoon. Otherwise our flight back to the US would be very late in the evening.

  • Great thanks for the information.

  • We took this tour in September. One new feature made it easier for many of us—we were able to check our bags straight to our final destination from Vic Falls (in our case ORD). We had about a 3.5 hour layover in Joburg, and the airport shopping is quite good for any last minute items.

  • I have no idea what its like now, but, in the past, one reason not to check bags thru on a long layover (several hours or overnight) was that the bags were subject to pilfering. Again, I have no idea what things are like now.
