Rome,The Amalfi Coast & Sicily (Malta)

Hi, we are going on the Rome, Almafi Coast & Sicily tour in October 2026. Our cruise ends in Malta and I have been looking at flights out of Malta. We are based in Philadelphia usually using PHL as our home airport and One World as my carrier of choice. Flights out of Malta would be on KM(Malta) and I could buy a one way back to Rome(FCO) or could go with a OneWorld BA flight to London Gatwick and continue the next day out of LHR to PHL. Has anyone had experience with KM or flying out of Malta that could give me their ideas. I don’t have a problem overnighting in London, just want to see if there are more options I haven’t considered OR how Tauck may rout passengers. Thanks.

I just completed this tour in October. Our routing was on Turkish Air: LAX to Istanbul to Rome and then returning Malta-Istanbul-LAX.

Price and avoiding European Business Class were the main drivers. We have used Turkish Air a few times, with mostly good results.

Not sure if Turkish Air is an option from Philadelphia. It’s a United partner, not One World.

  • We live in Philly, we were in Malta a couple of years ago and flew back via Heathrow I think!

  • Delta Air Lines has added nonstop flights from JFK Airport in New York to Malta beginning in June 2026.The flights will be offered three times per week. Obviously not Oneworld.

  • The trouble is, JFK is a 21/2 to 3 hour ride from the Philly area, horrible traffic. If we fly from there we generally get a limo but it’s pricey. Would be reluctant to get an Uber incase they are not familiar with JFK especially with all the construction going on there .

Izzy: We have done this trip, and our home is SFO, and we are also One World flyers, but the best fit that we found was on United, which was really mostly Lufthansa. I don’t think it is necessary to do an enroute layover. I know many of the ‘third world’ airlines offer some pretty fancy service, but they are not my first choice. I prefer flying with a well qualified crew. You would never find me in Lion Airways nor Ethiopian.
