Medical Insurance

I have a friend who is traveling to Europe for his daughter's wedding and then some general travel. He asked about medical insurance. I know that some of you have purchased from some outside companies. I'd appreciate it if you would share with me the names of companies that you think are good.

Thank you.

KathyM - is he on traditional Medicare (parts A and B ) Ifo so, a number of the Medigap plans (C, D, F, G, M, and N) cover 80% of expenses up to $50K. If he has commercial insurance or a Medicare (dis)Advantage plan (part C), he'll have to check his policy. The premium credit cards also have some medical coverage, as long as travel was charged to the card. That's what I've done for travel, though I've never needed to use it.

  • In general, Medicare does not cover medical expenses in Europe. If you have to pay in Europe getting money back can be a hassle.
