Basil is considered the cultural capital of Switzerland with over forty (40) museums and medieval architecture. It also has a great old town section. I highly recommend taking the excursion.
Assuming it is strictly a walking tour then I'd assume it will be the old town area with the unique Red Rathaus (town hall), Basel Cathedral and other buildings in that area.
Basel also has some unique modern architecture as well. Years ago Tauck used to use the Swissotel for the pre/post cruise hotel which was across from the very unique Basel Exhibition Center. Looked like a huge metal basket with a hole in the middle. A city wide street fair was going on and one of the rides went right thru the center of the hole. We could watch it from our room.
If you have a hotel stay in Basel you get a free public transport card and the trams are a nice way to see the city.
