Are Tauck Small Ships family oriented?

We took a Tauck Family river cruise last year and it was fabulous for our 15 and 19 year old daughters. We are interested in taking a Small Ship tour but wonder if it's appropriate for families with teens or if the passengers skew older/retired. TIA!

In my experience, Tauck skews older. They do offer what they call "Bridge Tours" but I don't know if they offer them on cruises.

However, I think a Tauck Cruise would be enjoyed by your daughters. There might not be any other kids their age, however.

The non-bridges tours aren't particularly family friends but I have seen family combinations on them multiple times. As Mike said, there may well be no other kids their age. It really depends on whether they are interested in the itinerary, activities and are fairly flexible with food preferences. I've heard Bridges tours do provide more kid friendly food options, but regular tours don't. I do believe the small ships have cabins with adjoining rooms so that is an advantage over the river cruises.

In my personal opinion, we traveled with our daughter many times on cruises and river cruises not worrying about if there were pre-teens or teens her age on the trip. My daughter loved communicating with other older adults. Plus the older category (so to speak) was also interested in her. Your kids will be too old for Bridges being that they are teens. Yes, take them on a trip. They will have a wonderful and memorable time. We took our fighter to Africa when she was 7, then Galapagos, then Antarctica and one trip every year. She’s 33 now and remembers all of them. We went back to Africa before she had a child and then asked if we can go again when her child is 7! I’ll be 80 then!!! This is what traveling does.

Small ship tours will be fine. I would hardly describe those ages as kids and a 19 year old is an adult. Both are definitely too old for Bridges tours. Also, I don’t know what the drinking ages are on the Tauck ships but in Europe some countries the drinking age is 16. A good time to educate that drinking wine with dinner is the best way to go.
We have been on two Bridges tours. I think five small ship so I think they would enjoy that experience and most adults would enjoy talking to them. While on the ship they could hang out on their own, swim in the pool. Eat meals without parents etc

Hi there! I'm in my early 30s and am lucky enough to have a job that pays enough to allow me to travel with my parents on trips. Your children will have a great time on the small ships. They will be younger than almost everyone (I'm a decade older than your youngest and I was still the youngest by far) but I was adopted by the group, never left out of conversations and evenings hanging out, and got to know everyone. If your children know the age group they may encounter and are prepared for that, they can have an amazing experience, especially depending on the itinerary and their own individual interests.

I’m envious. 30’s and traveling with Tauck. I had to retire before I had enough money to travel with Tauck. We have done about twenty Tauck tours. It is generally not a young crowd, but everyone likes young people.

Make sure they are prepared for seasickness, if they are susceptible. That's a misery for any age.
