Please note that if you arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and have to wait a few hours for a connecting flight, providing you do not leave the airport or pass the Immigration Desk, you will not require a transit visa. However, if you leave the airport for any length of time between flights you will require a transit visa.’

I didn’t 3 years ago but things may have changed. I am assuming you are not leaving the airport.
We didn't in 2015. Typically, when transiting an international airport and not leaving the air side, you do not need a Visa.
