Do you need an Ethiopian Visa

Do you need an Ethiopian Visa if you are just flying thru Ethiopia to Arusha Tanzania?

  • What does the Ethiopian Embassy say?

  • I didn’t 3 years ago but things may have changed. I am assuming you are not leaving the airport.

  • We didn't in 2015. Typically, when transiting an international airport and not leaving the air side, you do not need a Visa.

Agree Alan, but there are exceptions. I would get up to date info on one of the Ethiopian government websites.

I just checked, here it is from an Embassy

‘ If you are passing through Ethiopia on to another destination, you will require a transit visa.

Please note that if you arrive at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and have to wait a few hours for a connecting flight, providing you do not leave the airport or pass the Immigration Desk, you will not require a transit visa. However, if you leave the airport for any length of time between flights you will require a transit visa.’

"You don't need e-Visa for transit flights. If you want to go out from the permitted transit area of the Airport to visit Addis Ababa for some time, you need to get Transit Visa at the Airport. For more information on how to get Transit Visa , please contact Ethiopian Airlines transit officers at the Airport."
