Tauck Advertisement on Jeopardy

inlanikai

Did anyone else see the Tauck ad at the first commercial break on Jeopardy last night, 1/5/25? That's the first time I ever saw a TV ad for Tauck. I think it was a national and not a local insert commercial. Any other reports of TV commercials for Tauck?

Edited to Add: I saw the ad again last night on Jeopardy and it was during a local (NY market) insert block not national.

Saw a Tauck TV ad a few days ago, don't recall during which show. Might have been a college football game on Saturday.

BKMD

I watch Jeopardy every day (both my kids were contestants in the Kids Tournament 20+ years ago) and no Tauck ad here.

MCD

I didn't see one either. I'll keep an eye out for one tonight.

I have seen a couple on youtube

British

Yes, I saw at least one in the past few months.
I am getting bombarded with emails about Roam,
I’ve had a great offer for $4000 off a cabin on a tour with a choice of dates….couldn’t take up the offer because I had already booked another tour. A few weeks later got another email with the same offer, they obviously had cabins still available

ginger_201

Tauck ad on CNBC earlier today. First time in my 30+ years CNBC watching...

Choc

I had the same offer British . Same result

This is new too!

We are traveling with Tauck next week and just received an email with what I think is a big hint about tipping. here is part of the Emil.

Tauck Director and Driver Gratuities

Our guests frequently tell us that their Tauck Directors are a highlight of their trip. Because we believe gratuities are a personal way for you to express your appreciation, we generally do not include them in the price of your Tauck trip. We offer the following guidelines to assist you in determining the appropriate amount:

The Tauck director: USD $15 per traveler, per day.
The Driver (if applicable): USD $10 per traveler, per day. On many tours, we have covered driver gratuities for you. Your Tauck Director will inform you if that’s the case.
All other service gratuities, including those for local guides, hotel bellmen and restaurant staff, are included in the price of your journey.

On behalf of all of our employees around the world, I would like to sincerely thank you for entrusting your travel dreams with Tauck. If you have any questions, we are here to serve you, so please give us a call at 800.468.2825.

I haven't seen any video/tv ads but now regularly see online ads embedded in different websites and apps. Talked to a Tauck employee last summer who was on our cruise and he said they tailor their ad buys to the local market. So if you're seeing tv ads there must be a lot of Tauck customers in your area.

British

If that’s true then New York, Florida and California must be being bombarded with them.

Goddess

The reminder to tip has also been in the welcome packet on my last few tours.

kfnknfzk

Southern California - I have not seen TV advertisements for Tauck. I have no need/desire for social media sites beyond this forum so I can’t comment on that.

Regarding gratuities, Tauck has always suggested appropriate amounts since I have been traveling with them.

Goddess

Yes, that is correct, but do remember getting so many reminders to tip??

British

Yes, agree with you Kfnknfzk but never have we gotten a separate email to specify and remind un just a week before the tour.

kfnknfzk

My apologies. I read the tipping posts too quickly. It is sad that people now need to be prompted to extend a gratuity.

Goddess

Maybe Tauck should go back to including tips like they did years ago.

My apologies. I read the tipping posts too quickly. It is sad that people now need to be prompted to extend a gratuity.

Part of the problem is the inconsistencies between tours. For example, don't tip TDs on cruise, tip on land tours. Sometimes tip bus driver, sometimes not.

And I'll also point out that tipflation has far exceeded colst of living increases. Now Tauck recommends $15/pp/d, and it wasn't that long ago it was $8.

Goddess

agreed; maybe Tauck should go back to including tips like they did years ago.

British

I’ve been traveling with Tauck since 2003 and tips have never been included since then. When were tips always included?

Goddess

My parents travelled with Tauck years ago and that's where I heard about all inclusive pricing. It is rather confusing because every trip has different components. If it can be done for cruises, why can't it be done for land tours?

British

This has been discussed so many times. They won’t change it.

kfnknfzk

I agree with British about never experiencing a no-tip land tour.

Tauck’s guidelines are just that. If their suggestions are so offensive, don’t tip.

Goddess

I tip based on service, not suggestions.

British

I am not offended. As has been discussed recently, carrying around $4 to 500 for two weeks ready for the tip, it’s a nuisance….and that is before you factor in if a driver needs paying too. And no, I don’t want to be charging around looks for an ATM at the end of a tour. Many of our Tauck tours don’t go near an ATM.

smarks50

I am from the SF Bay Area and have never seen a Tauck ad on TV or in any local press. Re: tipping - I like that the tip is not included in the land tour price. I generally follow the recommended amounts but sometimes I want to leave more and on one trip the TD was a HUGE disappointment and I tipped less. That is the point of a “tip.”

loves2travel2

The tip email was probably at the suggestion of the tour directors. The assumption may be that people are confused and aren't tipping. If people read their specific tour information, they are informed. I tend to think a higher percentage of travelers aren't tipping or aren't tipping the suggested amount since the suggested amount is getting higher and higher.
As a 20+ tour customer, I am not enamored by the new Tauck.

British

Ah, someone else who is less enamored by Tauck, I thought it was just me. I think it’s the new management who are no longer family that have changed things up.
The continuing confusion about tips. Especially if river cruisers go on a land tour, they make assumptions that tips are included….so I’m expected to tip more to compensation for them…..🤪. That’s just not fair!

BKMD

I agree with both of you.

SandyFeet

As a waitress, I worked for tips every summer during my college years and again during the summers when I was a young teacher. The word “tips” derives from To Insure Proper Service. ‘Nuff said.

British

So it’s a bribe! Sad!
