Re: CAMP KALAHARI
Dixie Chick wrote:I’m confused. Where is “elsewhere” for sleeping? The bathroom tent? I have not been to Africa, so I just don't get what you are talking about. Are the sleeping tents private or do large tents have many beds in one room? Are there dirt floors? Somehow I have trouble imagining the concept of luxury tents. I guess that means no air conditioning. Is there ever a cool time to go? I guess I shoild find all this out before I book a trip to the land where the wild things are.

Dixie Chick- none of us want to spoil your trip, so are avoiding answering one question. I will say this, if you go in March,
April, May and the rains (which should be over) were heavy or late the year you go, you may not be offered the optional experience. Suffice it to say it is an option and a fabulous experience if you get to do it- so I've been told.
As far as the camps/tents- go to the tour page and copy the names of the camps then Google them or follow my links below. These are not Boy Scout camps, you aren't roughing it, are private tents, regular beds, furniture, solid floors and most on raised on platforms, have en suite bathrooms with flush toilets, etc. it is "Glamping." Depending on time of year, one night at Kwai River Lodge lists for $1100 - $1700! Meghan and Harry stayed at a camp near one of the Tauck Camps. Remember our summer is their winter. It is cool at night (depending on month down to the 40's) and in the mornings until Aug/Sept/Oct when it can quite warm. See the weather in the "Before You Go" > "Preparing to Go"

Re: Global Entry fee going up $20 in October
@AlanS - Take a look at the Chase Sapphire Reserve card. Hefty annual fee but you get $300 back if you use it for travel.
Big thing for me is that it provides $10,000 per person (limit 2) in travel insurance per trip. See the card site for full details.
It's a Visa so more places take it than AMEX.
Living with Leopards documentary
Just finished watching this excellent new documentary on Netflix. Filmed in the Okavango Delta, it follows the lives of a female leopard and her two cubs for 2 1/2 years.
Re: Advice please about these restaurants in Portugal and Spain
Great suggestion, jowell.
RexKim - If you do decide to dine there, I suggest contacting the concierge at your Madrid hotel prior to your tour and have her/him make the reservation for you. Let them know you are with Tauck (assuming you are staying at Tauck's hotel). The locals are given priority at the restaurant; as such, it was so much easier for the concierge to assist us.
Nonetheless, have a wonderful tour and please report back afterwards. The Iberian Peninsula is our second favorite region of Europe.

Re: Grand Family Safari June 21, 2024
Kristy, we are on the tour a couple of weeks after you. You can call Tauck and they will give you the number of kids on the tour and their sex and ages which might be of some help.

Re: The apparent new Covid policy
If Tauck extends a courtesy of allowing a person with covid to remain on the tour then I think Tauck should extend another courtesy to the other travelers by letting them know. I can appreciate privacy issues but as someone who has a compromised immune system the information would help me in distancing myself from the sick person. I will soon have two back to back tours - fingers crossed we are all healthy.
Privacy . . . in 2022 our TD emailed everyone's covid certificates with birth dates to each person. Now I thought that was a breach of privacy!
Re: Activity level 3 on Spain and Portugal Trip
Just returned from Portugal and Spain trip. Trip is very busy. Activity level is 3 and average steps for most of the group was around 8000 to 13,000 per day. Some streets are cobblestones, steps along the way do not have handrails, so be realistic on what you can do.
Most times for the morning start was 8am, some days 9am. Wonderful nonstop trip.
Re: The apparent new Covid policy
@kfnknfzk - I have no clue as to what you mean by "circular conversations". I don't think I was having a conversation with you.
Re: Wind Star Ship
Smiling Sam - Happy wife, happy life. 😂
Yes, like most men, I learned that long ago.
Re: The apparent new Covid policy
MikeHenderson - I don't involve myself in circular conversations. We are all entitled to our opinions.
