Re: QUESTION ABOUT THE TRINTY LIBRARY
I honestly got more enjoyment out of the Chester Beatty library/museum than the very brief crowded view of the Book of Kells. The library is free, located on the grounds of Dublin castle. Loads of interesting religious artifacts.
Re: Duffel bags for K&T
dogdoctor Hi!
Thanks for clarifying what has always been the norm on any African Safari trip.- the duffels are to be use when traveling on the Cessnas.
Suitcases are taken by ground in Vans to the closest destination...
Now, some people prefer a duffel bag as luggage all the way roundtrip. I rather take a suitcase with the duffel inside till I have to use it, a backpack too, plus my camera bag.
With this itinerary, we will take the Duffels as we fly from Windhoek. to Kwessi Dunes, suitcase will go by ground to the Strand hotel in
Swakopmund, and then we'll probably see them again @ the Omaanda Lodge, which is near the airport and our last stop.
Well, Namibia has started! How exciting!!!! hopefully we'll get to hear about it.
Good night!
Re: Duffel bags for K&T
They probably need to update their website. It clearly states that Namibia gets the large rolling duffel.

Re: Duffel bags for K&T
OK. @Sealord you are correct. I spoke to Tauck this morning. We are permitted to take 1 suitcase per person (no more than 44lbs) + the duffel. The duffel is intended to be used as we board the smaller plane and head to the Serengeti and we will the meet back up with our suitcase back in Arusha. And she confirmed the small duffel for us on the Family Bridges tour as well @British.
Re: Duffel bags for K&T
Mil, as I understand it, you can’t take a suitcase to Namibia, just the duffel. It is a huge country with mostly gravel roads. I assume it would cost a fortune to move the suitcases. When we went in 2018, the bag we got was similar size to the one SeaLord shows.
Stellie, I’m pretty sure Tauck has never used a wheeled duffel for Elegant SA, just a duffel without wheels similar to the one SeaLord shows

Re: Scandinavia in Spring Packing List
I have dual citizenship (USA and Denmark) and always return to Scandinavia in either Spring or Fall. Mid May, in my opinion, is a beautiful time to visit. Expect Fahrenheit temperatures to range between lows of mid 40s to highs of mid 60s. Temperatures will be lower the farther north you travel; higher the farther south you are. There is more daily sunlight starting in the spring.
I do not see the need for heavy outerwear. Layers work best with scarves and gloves and, perhaps, a wool cap for when traversing the beautiful fjords. Rain is typical in May, not heavy rain though. Rain coats with hoods are good to bring and if of substantial weight with a lining, you really do not need to bring other outerwear. I would prepare more for wind which can drastically make the air colder. Layer with lightweight wool and cashmere blends for warmth.
The region is beautiful with the fjords and countryside of Norway being spectacular. Yes, I am biased.

Re: Namibia, Starts April 23rd
There really isn’t that much to see in Windhoek. You can dive by the parliament building and church. The above museum is worth a visiting but you could get a taxi and go straight to it and ask the taxi to drive by the other sites.

Re: Namibia, Starts April 23rd
The Traveler, I have had good luck booking a half day city tour of Windhoek with Tours By Locals. They only have 2 guides so they might be already booked for June. Alternatively, you could contact the concierge at the start hotel. Good luck and happy travels!
Re: Basel north to Amsterdam, including the Moselle, 2024
Basel is awesome. When we did this cruise in 2017 we needed to be back at the hotel by 2 to ride the bus to the ship. If this is still the case trying to take a day trip to Lucerne or other cities would be a bit tight. But don't worry, they're plenty to do in Basel. Walk the old town, see the Basel Munster, visit the Knustmeuseum, spend some time in the Spielzeugwelten Museum. Have lunch along the river. Take a gondola to cross the river. Have lunch at Le Trois(beef tartare is excellent.). Have a meal at Lowensorn for a traditional meal. Drop in for a beer at Fischerstube. Wander around a find the oldest house circa 1300.
