Israel and Jordan
Looking forward to this tour with Tauck. We were so impressed with our African Safari with Tauck we book this trip!
We are leaving in December 2023. Looking at the itinerary, we are given several options for the first night dinner at Petra. One of them is to dine with a local family at their residence. Have anyone took this option? Your thoughts? Do we need to make arrangement for that ahead of time?
Has anyone visited places in Amman that aren't on the Taulk tour? We book 1 extra day and would like to get input on nice places to visit.

The current issue of National Geographic History magazine (Vol. 7, No. 1) has a short article about the Madaba mosaic. The mosaic was one of the few things we got to see in Jordan last March before our trip was cut short because of Covid. It's unusual in that east, rather than north, is at the "top" of the mosaic.
Had a wonderful time. Got to visit all the sites I learned about from 12 years of Catholic school. Highlights were the Church of the Nativity without a doubt, floating in the Dead Sea (lots of fun) and the camel/cart ride in Petra (never laughed so much).
Do I have to get my visa for Jordan in advance? The State Dept. website says that "most" ports of entry will issue visas to US citizens upon arrival, but visas are not issued at the King Hussein/Allenby Bridge border crossing. It looks like that's the closest crossing to Jerusalem, so we might be using that one.
Unlike the Jordan and Egypt trip, the Israel and Jordan trip does not go to Wadi Rum. I am wondering whether it is worth adding an extra day after the Israel and Jordan tour to go see Wadi Rum.
