Capetown Restaurants

Arriving early, looking for suggestions on restaurants near the Cape Grace for dinner.

  • One of our favorite restaurant is the Codfather in Camps Bay. You can order a variety of both fish and crustaceans.

  • The Cape Grace concierge always recommends Baia. It is on the second level of a mall at the V & A waterfront. Beautiful views of Table Mountain and Lion’s Head plus delicious kingklip. The bar at The One and Only also has fantastic views and serves a good burger. Have fun in my favorite city❤️

  • Baia is a great spot and only a 5 minute walk away. There are many other restaurants in the V&A Waterfront that you can scope out when you walk that area. In addition, the High Tea at Cape Grace is a "dinner" alternative.

  • I second the Godfather. Best and freshest seafood ever!

  • YES! We just returned and took an extra day at the beginning of our trip. $14 day pass on the Hop-On Hop-Off Bus and got off in Camp's Bay to have a delightful lunch at the Codfather Restaurant. Fresh seafood, your choice, no menu....you pick and choose your seafood fresh from the counter. It as the best trip ever, beautiful South Africa, and beyond!

  • We ate in a couple of places at the Waterfront and also an Ethiopian restaurant downtown, all were good. We enjoyed wandering and seeing what's available. This trip has lots of excellent food so wouldn't be too concerned. This is a great trip.

  • Just an FYI, Baia is closed for renovations until October. We have a reservation at Codfather for dinner on 9/12. For our arrival night and for the evening after our Cape Fusion food tour we will see what’s available when we are there and for what we may or may not have an appetite. The Cape Grace concierge has been very helpful with suggestions.

  • I know a waitress who is from Cape Town and has been our server twice at a Del Frisco's here in TN. She highly recommends Willoughby's which is at the Waterfront for great seafood. For those who love formal high tea, the Mount Nelson hotel has the best one in Cape Town.

  • For a casual lunch or diner, there is a Time Out food hall.

  • There is a large supermarket at the V&A waterfront-Pick n Pay. They had everything there including hot meals to eat there or take away if you are short on time.

  • And, when your hubby gets tired of shopping, take him here- its also on the V&A waterfront: :D

  • Alan that's hilarious ! :D

  • Alan, my husband likes that idea a lot. He says it could be a real money-maker for the establishment!

  • Hysterical. Every city / country needs one of these! Elegant SA was the best tour ever........so good I'd like to do it all over again !

  • On our free night in Cape Town we did the chefs tasting dinner at Pier, part of the world famous La Colombe restaurant family. It was a very short walk from the Cape Grace hotel, an absolutely fantastic dining experience, and very reasonably priced compared to what you would pay in the US. Advance reservations required for sure but a great way to wrap up the Cape Town leg of the trip.

  • I have to add to JillWeaton's great suggestion: the Waterside is in the same building as the Pier and part of the same La Columbe group. We ate there the night before our week's tour and were blown away by the food, service, and presentation. The tasking menu was incredible and better than we have experienced when traveling worldwide. Prices are not outrageous and well worth the experience.

  • Update to dining recommendations. We dined at Codfather tonight, on our last night in Cape Town. This place is about 15 minutes away from Cape Grace, but the hotel provided a complimentary car to the restaurant. We didn't need the scheduled hotel pickup for our return as dinner didn't take that long, so we used Uber for $10.00. The food here is all fresh fish, and though I am not a fish lover, I found the food great. It is not expensive and well worth the extra travel time.

  • Sandman, we also ate at CodFather on our recent visit to Cape Town, and it was excellent. You select your own fish for the chef to prepare, and it is served with rice steak fries and vegetables. They also have sushi you can select off of a conveyor belt. Fun, casual place for lunch or dinner.
