Allergies

Has anyone had experience with the down filled bedding on the Xmas markets river cruises? Can it be replaced with a hypoallergenic bedding? We are hoping to go with our family next year but out daughter-in-law is allergic to down filled bedding.

  • Maybe ask Tauck..
Out of interest, we have a silk duvet which is fantastic, cool in summer, warm in winter. I first came across one on our visit to the sill factory on the China tour but have recently replaced it with a better one bought here.

  • I honestly can't remember if the pillows or duvet are down but I do know if you don't like the bed made up European style ( no top sheet just a covered duvet) they will switch it out to add a top sheet. I would imagine they have blankets to replace the duvet if it is down. I'm pretty sure their are non-down pillows. As British said, I'd call Tauck and ask. They might have to communicate with Scylla ( the company that owns/crews the ships) to get an exact answer. Enjoy. I loved my Christmas cruise.

Choc - Here is a direct quote from Tauck’s website…..”white duvets and pillows of mako cotton with 90% down filling.” I only checked a certain cabin category but would assume all cabins have the same bedding. Hope this helps.

Knowing Tauck, I am sure they have alternatives.

  • I rather have a top sheet than a duvet which sometimes feels too hot and the bed chamber ladies always help with that change.

  • We did the Xmas market cruise on the Danube in 2024 and our daughter is allergic to down feathers among other things. She did not have any trouble with the bedding, I should add she is taking allergy meds on a daily basis (i.e. Zyrtec etc.). I am sure if you contact Tauck prior to the cruise they can make necessary accommodations. As far as food allergies go, the chef and manager met with everyone who had them on an individual basis the first evening of the cruise to discuss food allergies and make sure there were no issues.
