I've been away for almost 3 weeks, and I came back to this new format for the Forum. When did this happen? It's freaking me out!!
The background colors were blue ot begin with, then it changed to green, a Tauck color. The format is a disaster, very hard to navigate. It is hosted by the same company, Vanilla
Tiny print!
I have a hard time figuring out which ones I’ve already read - new threads and those with new responses don’t stand out like they used to.
you are not alone 😀🤪
Agree, This update is terrible.
You can sort the comments so the newest ones are topmost.
How?
Sort by:
Absolutely awful.
It is awful!
You can select the viewing order (sort order oldest or newest on top) by clicking right next to "Sort by: which appears below the comments header, before the first response.
Alan, that makes it even more confusing
I agree with the disaster called “new foremat “ . I called Tauck because I had so many problem . An IT person sent me an EMail explaining how . I still had some problems , he- the IT person did another follow up . He was extremely nice and eventually I got it .
I was involved with a new ERP system in my previous life , so I sympathize with Tauck . Tauck may have been forced into making a change - I do not know . However what I do know that the implementation was HORRIBLE . If you agree , do what I did - call Tauck . Tauck should post a Navigation guide on the the website .
What were they thinking???? It is not user friendly and makes it really hard to read a thread or follow. Sad. Less likely to visit now.😑
You can also flag the discussions you want to follow so that you're notified when there is a new response.
One more thing - they don't tell you there is a limit on characters….until you finish and they say "Your post is 1427 characters too long." 🤨 So I hoped and prayed that when I cut my post in half I could paste it in a new one rather than have to retype! Thankfully that worked….
They need to add a word count so it won't cause issues with long, in-line, trip reports or if you first type the report in MSWord and paste it. Larger reports will need to be broken up and pasted as a comment to your initial report or as a totally new thread. In the past, whenever I added more to a report as a comment in the same thread, I would edit the title of my original post to indicate the report was updated. If and when I get around to posting a report of our Switzerland trip, I'll see if it is still possible to change the original title of a thread I started.
Last week I searched AI and experimented with the forum software (Vanilla Foundation Theme 2026) text formatting to see if I could generate colored text, etc., things that were possible with the previous version (and pre-Vanilla using html or Mark-up.) While that capability exists or there are workarounds in some installations of this (new) version of Vanilla, our version is locked up tight (by design?) and none of them work. So, what you see is what you get. 😢
As to new vs old posts on the "Recent Discussions" list, I wish they would colorize instead of bolding the titles of updated ror new threads. If there a lot of new/updated posts, my reading technique now is to read a few, hit "reload/refresh" (which removes bolding from threads I have read or visited) then continue with another batch. As others have said, it would be nice if the software did this automatically.
Other things I wish they would do:
