Hello. We are going on this Yellowstone trip in a few weeks (finally, yay!). Are hiking poles worthwhile to take ? Also, we are booked for a half day of the Iditarod sled dogs in Jackson hole. Would we be wise to try to change it to a full day ? Thanks to everyone.

Seriously looking at the Wonderland: Yellowstone in Winter tour. We would want to arrive a day early, but are concerned that there may not be enough to do to fill the time - you can only spend so much time in the hot springs pool. We are recently booked for Yellowstone in Jan 2024 and reviewing clothing recommendations. Planning on layers and we are familiar w/ winter wear, synthetics, no cotton, etc. Ski pants / bibs w/ elastic internal snow shields over boots. Did anyone travel this year (2024) on this tour? We are scheduled for Jan 2025 and would love to snowmobile and dogsled. Did you book at hotel or independently? We will probably stay in Bozeman one day early and Jackson one day longer. Any suggestions for fun things other than above? I've ready the tubing was fun ... :-)
The tour itinerary states Day 7 is 'on your own'. Am wondering what folks chose to do on that day. We found Snow Tubing available but that's only for 1 hour. Have dog sledded in the past, so don't need that again. Knees can't ski anymore (great sadness). Other suggestions???
With the closure of mammoth hot springs and changing to the Super 8 for a night, anyone on the Yellowstone winter trip in the last few weeks have any info on the changes to the schedule and events? The posted itinerary has not been updated. We are on the tour starting feb 9.
