What to do in Chico

Seriously looking at the Wonderland: Yellowstone in Winter tour. We would want to arrive a day early, but are concerned that there may not be enough to do to fill the time - you can only spend so much time in the hot springs pool. I know there is a spa and you can go horseback riding - neither of which appeals to my hubby. Is there anything else that we could do in the area that doesn’t require a car? Thanks in advance.

  • Nope! The day go by fast; just relax. If is an extraordinary tour in winter.

Chico is kinda in the middle of nowhere between Bozeman and Yellowstone. At one time there was a dogsled outfit operating out of there, but not any more. Go to their website or call the hotel to see what they say. Cross country skiing or snowshoeing?

  • Thank you both. Kind of what I thought. Still very interested in the tour though.

  • Yellowstone is a totally different place in the winter!! Beautiful and no crowds. Fantastic tour.

    You gotta dress right, however.

Chico Hot Springs. And, yes, we got several inches of snow the first night in Chico!

  • I agree with Alan S. Attire should be for freezing temperatures.
In my opinion,Yellowstone is more memorable than Yellowstone in summer.

  • With the heat we've been having this summer, I could go for this:

  • Me too, I live where it’s 110 degrees, and I’m not a hot weather personality.

  • Loved Chico Springs!

  • We are excited to go in 13 days!! Well prepared for any kind of weather ... I just hope we really get snow!

  • A2couple: it looks like we are on the same tour, starting the 17th. Scott & Judy (Reston, VA) and our friend Jo (Salt Lake City). We'll be at Chico a day early (GOT) and enjoying the hot spring.

This'll be our 4th time to Yellowstone in winter (last 3 with Tauck) which gives you a notion about how we feel about this tour.

See you in a couple of weeks!

  • I loved this tour. Dress warm; layers upon layers. It is incredible and majestic. Sunscreen is important too and a good moisturizer for hands and cuticle oil. I’ve never been in such dry climate . I love Yellowstone more in the winter than in the summer.

  • And a lip balm with sunscreen.

  • Absolutely, a lip balm. I was thinking that after I already posted.

  • I’ve been to Yellowstone dozens of times, including twice in winter. If you’ve never been there in winter, you’ve never been there. I went dogsledding twice and it’s too bad it is no longer available. Hiking is good. Cross country skiing is fantastic. I don’t know if there is any snowmobiling available but that would be great.
