Alaska's Inside Passage Northbound July 2026

I am traveling with my family of 9 (multi-generational, ages 18-78) on the northbound Alaska's Inside Passage departing Vancouver July 16. Can anyone who has taken this cruise (or the southbound version) comment on restaurants onboard and excursions? How strenuous are the kayaking and hiking excursions? Is the train ride worth it? Are there any stops that we can do on our own / without the tour group? Also, what do you recommend we do when we first board the ship and during our first full sail day? Should we make dinner reservations right away? We are a somewhat casual bunch and do not care to dress formally every night. We are also a mix of fitness levels. All advice is welcome! I look forward to hearing your comments!
