This post is old, so for those of you who went in the past it’s too late, but we just returned from the K & T tour. Fabulous, as everyone says! We got to ARusha two days early and were looking for something to do. Our driver discouraged the Arusha National Park tour as it is pretty much the same thing you will be doing for the next two weeks. We opted for a Cultural Village tour to Mulala village through the Gran Malia Arusha. Absolutely unbelievable! The village is half way up Mt. Meru. Our guide picked us up with a driver in the a.m. The road is way more bumpy and rutted than anything you will find on Safari. Honestly, we were a little concerned at times. After about an hour we came to the village and were taken to meet Mama Anna with a huge smile and big hugs. OMG! This woman is a force of nature. Our worried disappeared! This woman has single-handedly transformed the lives of the women and children in her village. Decades ago she got a cow and transformed that into a profitable milk and cheese business. She has recruited other women, and now she sells coffee, milk, cheese, and honey. She built the first school in the village. Our guide turned out to be her son. He will give you a tour through the village, then you will see them open a (stingless) bee hive and extract honey, then you will pound, roast, and drink incredible coffee. Do this! It is amazing, and absolutely unlike anything else you will do on the trip!
