credit card use in South Africa

in South Africa: An Elegant Adventure
My husband and I are booked for the April 26 tour. Many countries now issue chip and pin credit cards rather than the magnetic strip cards issued here in the United States. I am wondering if we will have difficulty using our magnetic strip credit cards in South Africa?

    I was in South Africa in October. I had no trouble using my "old fashioned" Visa card at stores and hotels in Cape Town and Johannesburg and to pay my bill at the game lodges. I did not try to use the card in Zimbabwe due to security concerns expressed by my credit card company and other postings I had seen. Still, I always carry a decent amount of cash and just make sure it is secured in the safe.
