Tauck Sicily Tour

We're scheduled for the Tauck Rome/Sicily tour/cruise in September. On day 8 of the tour, we're offered a choice of sightseeing the town of Taormina or going to Mt. Etna. The Mt. Etna includes a cable car ride and then an off-road vehicle ride.

Anyone done the Mt. Etna excursion? Is it worth while? What did you do/see on the excursion? Any comments will be appreciated.

  • Mike and Judy,
We went on this trip in June. We did the Taormina tour, not Mt. Etna. We enjoyed the excursion- the Greek theater is well-preserved and there are beautiful views of the Ionian Sea and Taormina. The village of Taormina is charming - we had time to walk around the city, do some shopping and have lunch. Most of our fellow passengers did the Mt. Etna tour - I don't have details but can tell you they were very positive about the excursion. There are other ports where you can see ancient ruins, so the Mt. Etna excursion might offer you a different experience. What you see will be somewhat dependent on how clear of a day you have. I don't think you can go wrong either way. Beside all the wonderful things you will see at the different ports, the experience on the ship was great. Having breakfast in the open air every morning was such a nice way to start our day. The ship's staff will make you feel like family! Have a wonderful time! Chris
  • We’ve done both Mt Etna and Taormina. Taormina is a nice quaint town but Mt. Etna is an experience. The cable car ride is fun and the suvs with enormous tires up to the top are very cool. IMHO you should opt for the Mt Etna excursion.
