A tip on souvenir shopping...

I just got back from this trip & I wish I had done more shopping earlier in the trip instead of waiting until I got to Paris. I had not wanted to lug around my souvenirs, so thought that waiting until the end was the logical thing to do. Unfortunately, I discovered that the opera quarter of Paris is over-commercialized and the neighborhood surrounding the ending hotel (Hotel du Louvre) was swamped by hordes of tourists that have pushed up the prices of everything. Many people have been to Paris, but I had never been before, so I did not know this.

    We generally agree with this, although if you don't mind longer walks in Paris there are areas within a mile or so of the hotel where the prices are better than right around the hotel. Paris certainly provides more variety in both the shops and the choices than the other places on the tour.
