Grand Canadian Trip in late June

Our first trip with Tauck will be June 25th. Has anyone done the Grand Canadian Trip in late June or early July who can share with us advice on what clothing to pack. We live in Georgia and are not familiar with Northwest temperatures.

    Hi there,

The summer weather in the Canadian Rockies can change instantly and is often unpredictable, as in any mountainous region. There is normally little difference in the expected conditions between June and early September, with temperatures ranging from 50° - 80°F. (However, in June, the temperatures average from the mid sixties to low seventies in Fahrenheit. Please bear in mind that that is only an average temperature, and your experience may vary. In particular:) Whether traveling in this area by motorcoach or exploring the mountains by foot, one can expect to encounter any type of weather, from rain and snow to dry warm sunshine. Conditions are often very local and may vary from one valley to the next, or change during the course of the day. We suggest that prior to departure you check a newspaper or the Internet for up-to-date predictions.

So, as far as packing goes, for daytime activities, we generally suggest a wardrobe that is adaptable and versatile. Casual, comfortable cotton clothing is recommended. There may be occasional cool weather so “layered” clothing might be needed. There are both outdoor and indoor activities, so packing versatile and adaptable clothing will help assure your comfort in a variety of conditions.
For most evenings, resort casual attire is perfectly acceptable. However, you may enjoy dressing up a bit for our welcome and farewell dinners. A sports jacket with or without tie for men, and a cocktail dress for women are appropriate, and they may also be suitable for other nights during your journey.
Consider packing a number of garment combinations you can mix and match over four or five days before needing to do laundry. Laundry service may be available during your tour or cruise for a fee. Please inquire with your Tauck Director.

Beyond your normal wardrobe and personal grooming items, we suggest you also bring along:
    • Comfortable walking shoes
    • Rain gear (rain coat and umbrella)
    • Sunglasses
    • Sunscreen and sunhat
    • Travel alarm clock
    • Prescription medicines (an adequate supply to last your entire journey), and written
copies of your prescriptions from your doctor. While it may be possible to refill prescriptions
during your journey, the availability of refills cannot be guaranteed. What’s
more, refilling prescriptions in foreign countries can be difficult and time-consuming.
You may also want to include some
    • Insect repellent
    • Swimming attire
    • Warm sweater or fleece
    • Hat & gloves
    • Binoculars

We also recommend that you pack any prescription medicines (an adequate supply for your entire journey) along with your travel documents and a change of clothing in your carry-on bag, in order to minimize any inconvenience should your luggage be lost or delayed. We also recommend, for your peace of mind and personal security, that all expensive jewelry
and other valuables be left at home.

    I hope this helps!

    Sincerely,
    Tim
