Nova Scotia and PEI

Has anyone been on this tour lately? Ideas for restaurants and activities for free time? Weather in September? Clothes? How cool was it in September?

Thanks. We are going Sept. 6.

  • I was on this tour July 2022. Depending on your interests I can recommend: Halifax-The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. You could also go to the Ferry terminal and take the Alderney Line across to Dartmouth. I took the ferry round trip; I did not explore Dartmouth. You do have to leave the ferry on arrival but just exit the boat and reenter showing your ticket in the entrance line. You can do the round-trip ride for the price of a one-way ticket. When you buy the ticket at the terminal just tell the clerk of your plan to return directly. The ferry has an open-air deck giving great views of the coastline and bridge, the ferries run frequently, it is a cheap activity and relaxing.
Charlottetown- on the free night a group of us went to The Confederation Centre of the Arts and saw Anne of Green Gables the musical.
The theater was lovely, as was the production. Although that show is no longer playing check their website and see if something is of interest to you on the night you are there. We bought tickets from the box office after arrival in Charlottetown (the TD had called the theater to arrange tickets for us from the bus on the way to Charlottetown). Anne of Green Gables had been a long running production so that may be why multiple seats were still available that night, the newer shows might be more popular so it might be best to prebook.
The theater is less than 10 minute walk from the hotel. It was a fun trip... Enjoy!

  • We just returned from the Canadian Maritimes last night. We went to dinner at the Bicycle Thief in Halifax on our pre day. It had been recommended by another traveler. It was very good and just a short distance (but down a big hill and of course back up after dinner) from our hotel, the Prince George. We had made reservations before leaving home and would have otherwise had a long wait. We also did a harbor cruise on our our own the day of the welcome dinner through J. Farwell Sailing Tours. It was rainy and foggy, but still glad we did it. You can't bring drinks aboard but they are available for purchase. You can bring food. We asked the hotel restaurant if they could pack up some sandwiches for us which they did - so had a nice picnic lunch aboard. Our tour stopped near the Halifax Public Gardens - we were given some time for lunch, to see the gardens and do some shopping. We had visited the gardens on the welcome dinner day and spent over an hour there - they were beautiful. We wouldn't have seen nearly as much if we had just visited as part of the tour stop.

Not sure what weather you can expect in September but would strongly suggest being prepared for anything. We had some hard rains especially our first few days. We carried a "go bag" and always had umbrellas and hats. Also took light jackets on the bus so we would have them for excursions if needed.

Catching up on wash etc. but will try to post more comments and some pictures later.

  • Thank you both. Very helpful.
