Canadian Rockies and Glacier National Park

Looking forward to our end of June 2024 small group tour. Can anyone advise whether Tauck will offer (either itself or through hotel) suggested tours to book on the leisure days at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge and Fairmont Banff Springs before trip? Or does one reach out on ones own to hotel concierge or local outfitter to arrange and pay for activities during these days PRIOR to arrival?

  • We have taken the Grand Canadian Rockies tour twice, albeit quite some time ago. My advice is to research the hotels yourself and look at what might be offered/suggested. Do this in advance and have the concierges assist with the arrangements. The Fairmont properties are beautiful and destinations in their own right. Enjoy and please consider posting a review afterwards.

  • My family of four adults is booked on a July 2024 CR & GNP trip. Do you recommend the Banff Gondola? Is there transportation to/from the Fairmont? Thank you.

I’ve stayed at the Banff Springs (Fairmont) a couple times. The first time it was a CP hotel, and still beautiful from the outside but really kind of dumpy inside. Fairmont rebuilt it into a beautiful hotel. We went for walks during this tour and did a bit of shopping, but we very much enjoyed the hotel. If you want outside activities, go for it, but the hotel itself is a destination.

  • Yes, there was complimentary shuttle service provided by the hotel. Contact them by e-mail to make sure they still do offer the service or visit their website. The views are lovely, but the views are lovely every day of the tour. Enjoy!

  • Just to get the expectations in line, the hotels inside the Glacier National Park are not five star hotels. They are only open a few months of the year, and they are pretty basic. The other lodgings are quite nice, but the Chateau Lake Louise was a bit of a surprise. It’s a beautiful hotel, but for some reason it is a big attraction to people from Southeast Asia. It was a bit chaotic, and you had to show your room key just to get into the bar. The JPL and the Banff Springs were our favorite stops.
