Scottish Isles Cruise from Glasgow to Edinburgh

We are sailing on the Eastbound trip in a week (May 14-26). I am concerned about the 50-degree temps and high winds on the isles, especially Shetlands. Will a puffy coat, scarf and hat be enough? Was there a lot of rain?

We did this last year in the same time frame. We did pack our warm puffy jackets. We didn't take warm hats or scarfs but my husband bought a knit cap there and we both got scarfs while there. My husband had a baseball cap that didn't work well with the wind on the islands. We were plenty warm with a puffy jacket, scarf and knit cap.

  • Puffy coats are great, but, they usually are not windproof enough. You will either need a waterproof rain shell over it (which you will need any way) or a windshell like a RAB borealis or Arcteryx Squamish. I usually bring both since the later is usually really light. In addition, you may want a puffy with synthetic insulation rather than down just in case it gets wet. Remember a pair of lightweight gloves/ mittens.
