Savoring France: Paris, Lyon & Provence - Excursion Choice Guidance Requested!

Greetings, we are planning to take the subject cruise in April 2025, and are at an impasse around the shore excursion choice on day 5. The choices are Walking Tour of Viviers; or Grignan Walking Tour and Truffle Farm. We think both look outstanding with many attractive elements.

Would anyone care to share their choices and rationale? Perhaps your experiences on either? We appreciate any input to help us “break the deadlock”! Thank you!

  • I took this tour about six (6) years ago, so I do not know if the truffle farm excursion is the same one we did. We watched a dog hunt for truffles then entered the hosts' beautiful home for a snack—truffles, of course. Hope this helps.

This was one of our favorite tours. All the excursions were marvelous, and you truly do savor your way along the Rhône. The service aboard the ship was impeccable. Enjoy!

We loved this tour last year. We did the truffle farm, and we liked the tour, but we decided that truffles are an ‘acquired’ taste. Neither my wife nor I like truffles. The bread and the wine were good.

  • Even from the back I recognize the host! It's quite possible the dogs are the same, too. Such a memorable trip.

DandDK- No matter your decision, please consider posting a review of your experiences afterwards.

  • I went to that same farm. That tour was one that I remembered - very interesting. I found that I didn't care for truffles, either, but seeing the dogs find them was interesting. Someone asked why they use the yellow labs instead of the black or chocolate. They said that the yellow labs are easier to see when it's getting dark.

  • We really enjoyed the truffle farm. I enjoyed hearing the history and being able to try the different varieties of truffles. The family was very kind and welcoming. There was time to shop for truffle products at the end of the tour.

  • We did the tour Vivers. Nice walk and not too strenuous. You will go to the top of the "rock" with a nice view followed by a game of pétanque which I'm not sure they still do. The guide family had live there for years and told us the story of his family during WW2.
