Really looking forward to this trip however, my husband is concerned he may need to make telephone contact while we are traveling. Any comments about this?

    Which day are you leaving out for this trip? My husband and I will be on the august 22 start date of Botswana, South Africa and Zambia!

    Don't blame your husband for his concern. We just returned from South Africa-Zambia-Botswana and Zimbabwe. Our international cell phone was supposed to work in all four countries. Indeed, it did work in Johannesburg and elsewhere in South Africa. It also worked in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe but nowhere else.

    When we traveled in Kenya and Tanzania we often saw cell phone towers in rural areas, even in the bush. That was not the case in Zambia or Botswana. While in the bush, we never saw a single cell phone tower.

    The only real suggestion I can give you is to have your relatives call Tauck in an emergency since short wave radio may be the best way to get word to you. Good luck...Leo C
