Elegant adventure-south Africa

Going on the South Africa: AnElegant Adventure next September 12,2014. I wonder if someone might comment on the early morning temperatures when on Safari and how layered did most people dress. Are gloves needed? Were daytime temps warm enough to use swimming pools?
Thanks

  • We were on one of the September tours back in 2010 and loved it. Early morning temperatures were cool in the mornings and then warmed up as the day went along. We would suggest layers to include a light sweater in the morning game drive. The vehicles all had blankets to use if we were not warm enough, and we shucked them as soon as the sun came out. The reverse is true of the evening game drives. We started with light clothing, and took along a sweater and utilized the blankets to come back with. We also utilized our zip-off pants which worked very well with the temperature changes during the game drives. Recommend swim wear as it is warm enough to utilize the swimming pools during the day. Do not expect them out in the bush, but the hotels may have them. Oh, and gloves are an option. But again, the blankets were very useful. And, if there are animals to photograph, the adrenaline warms you right up when trying to get your camera out quick enough. One final thought, take the shower cap from your first hotel to utilize to protect your cameras from moisture. You will not need them until Victoria Falls, but you never know. An Elegant Safari is a great adventure that shows you the contrasts of the country of South Africa. We really enjoyed it.
