Converters

Is a converter necessary for the hotels on the South Africa An Elegant Adventure or just the adaptors?

This is a more general answer to your question than what you seek, but perhaps it will help. Nearly everything we travel with these days (cell phones, battery chargers, etc.) is dual voltage (ie, 110-240v) and thus does not need a converter. Only you can determine if you have exceptions (vintage electric razor, etc.). If you have an exception, then whereever you need an adapter, you will need a converter. You won't likely find a South African outlet (ie, one that needs an adapter) supplying 110v current.

One other thing that many people don't think about is that if you travel with an extension cord that you purchased in the U.S., it may not be rated for the higher current, and thus may be a fire hazard overseas. I travel with a CPAP machine and can't count on finding an outlet near the bed. You can find extension cords rated for 220-240v on Amazon.com.
