U.S. Currency

in South Africa: An Elegant Adventure
We are going on the September 19th trip and wondering how much U.S. currency would be needed based on local currency requirements and times when credit cards might not be accepted. Any suggestions appreciated.

    I don't remember using any US currency in South Africa - they require the Rand. You can order some from your bank before leaving home or get at a local bank in Cape Town. I did use some US dollars in Zimbabwe to pay my hotel extras and for a little shopping because I had been warned credit card fraud is a major issue there.

    Just found out from our credit union that they block transactions in Zimbabwee because of possible fraud. We do have a travel VISA and they do not block that country.
