D-Day landmarks
Just returned from this trip and had a terrific time experiencing Paris & Normandy along the Seine. The Tauck Tour and Cruise Directors were all wonderful, as were the majority of the local guides.
The trip was VERY true to the itinerary, along with a few nice Tauck treats. The tour, as with most tours, provides a tour offering breadth, not depth; a great overview of the region. So…if you are signing up for this tour ONLY because you are interested in D-Day, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment. As outlined in the itinerary, there is ONE DAY on this trip dedicated to D-Day (and a terrific lecture the night before). Many people complained that it wasn't enough time there…Omaha Beach and Arromanches, with a fairly long bus drive. There may be ways Tauck could tweak the day a bit, but know that when you are on a tour of the Seine & Normandy, it is NOT a D-Day tour.
If D-Day is the only reason you are signing up for this tour, I would suggest either a) looking for a different tour, or b) skipping the day of the tour that goes to Honfleur and Etretat and finding your own local guide to pick you up at the boat in Le Havre to take you to additional sites surrounding D-Day such as Utah Beach and Pointe Du Hoc (at your own cost, of course; this is not an option being offered by Tauck). My family went to Normandy in 2001 to specifically visit D-Day sites, and this tour barely scratches the surface, but that's not what it is designed to do.
Read the itinerary. If it sounds good to you, go for it! You won't regret it. River cruises with Tauck are TERRIFIC!
