MOST HALLOWED GROUND TOUR BY KEN BURNS
This tour is not listed among topics, so I'm making a general appeal.
Does anyone know how active this trip really is? We have read the itinerary more than once and can't really tell if this is one with very long bus rides and early mornings.
If anyone out there has taken this trip, I would appreciate hearing from you with an objective view of how exhausting this may be. The itinerary itself sounds wonderful and we would not have to fly in because we are within train distance.
Thanks.
Sharon

Can't help with your particular question, but the forum for this trip is listed under United States, Southern USA. There's not a lot of traffic, but it is here.
Cheers,
Jan
I did this tour a few years ago. As I recall the most that we were on the bus at any given time was maybe a couple of hours. I do not recall the hours that we started but I do not recall going out too early. I do not know what you consider early but I believe it was closer to 8:30ish most days.
As far as active, there was some walking in the battlefields. A friend traveling with me has difficulty walking at times and she was transported to the different locations at the battlefields by the coach. She did not choose to do all of the walking with the guide in some areas.
Having spent quite a bit of time touring around Virginia and these areas, most can be reached within a 2-3 hour driving time anyway. Probably the longest ride would be from Richmond back to DC at the end of the tour.
If you are interested in Civil War history. this is a great experience. I had previously visited many of these sites on my own, however with this tour I was given further insight by the local guides.
Thanks for the detail. We are both American history lovers and think that this would be a fabulou experience. The reason that I asked about the level of activity and times is that the written daily itinerary in the brochures nevers gives all the details. We have taken 11 Tauck trips and they always include so much more than what is being advertised, which is a wonderful thing.
I appreciate your insights. Yes, I've been to a few of the places too, but the perspective will be much more informative and fresh from these experts.
Regards,
Sharon
