Recommendations please? We're on the Rhine Connoisseur in early October. looking for advice on spending a free day prior to the Fairmont Montreux reception. Looking at the boat ride around Lake Geneva (two plus hours) or a quick train trip and meander through Lausanne (four hours). Advice please on either, none or anything else. Trip or adventure would have to be six hours maximum. Thank you

    Consider taking the train to Bern, Switzerland’s legislative capital. It is a very clean, walkable city and has a lovely old town area.

    Our Tauck land tour also started in Montreux. I like to take it easy on jet lag day, so stayed in area and enjoyed the unusual Alimentarium (Food Museum) and its beautiful gardens, a short bus ride away. At that time the hotel gave us a transport pass.
