New museum in Cairo

According to the Global Journeys and Safaris book Tauck sent out, visits to the GEM are late afternoon on day 11. The website only makes mention of a visit to the Egyptian Museum , which is actually a different museum, so they are not in sync. The GEM is quite close to the Marriott Mena House. We are on one of the trips in January 2026 as well, and plan on spending an extra day after the end of the tour at the GEM. If anyone has anymore info please feel free to embellish.
I am on an Oct. 2025 Egypt only tour, and GEM is listed as in the afternoon on day 2. I am flying in early to spend a whole day at GEM/relaxing before the tour starts. I'll report back on what is and is not open etc.
I went in February. The visit in Day 11 is to the old Egyptian Museum. We visited the GEM while we were staying at Marriott Mina House. The time allotted, about 90 minutes, is not enough. I went with a private guide the day before the tour started for about $60. Totally worth it. The GEM is extraordinary!
I'm on this tour right now. Visit to new GEM is done on the day we fly from Aswan to Cairo. We went to GEM directly from the Cairo airport and spend most of the day there - first with "Egyptologist" and then we were given some free time.
Lucky you, we didn’t get to see it in October. Oh, well.
Did you mean fly from Luxor to Cairo? Did you fly into the new Sphinx International airport?
