School visit on K&T A Classic Safari

Hello! We will be starting our K&T safari in about 10 days and all the information on the forum has been very helpful!
We recall reading about a school visit somewhere - not able to find it again, lol. Is there always a school visit, and what would be the recommended items to take with us to give to the school/students? Thanks in advance!

There should be a school visit unless it is their vacation time.
The Tanzanians love soccer. The school we visited there, we took deflated soccer balls and a pump. The balls were used immediately and a game was set up with the children on the tour and the school kids. The ground is rough so balls take quite a beating so I guess they get through them pretty quickly.
The library had plenty of books and our group read with the children. My daughter and daughter in law each sponsored a child after the visit.

  • British, thank you for the information, much appreciated!

  • Last month, most individuals from our group gave cash donations to our TD who handled the transfer to the appropriate person at the school. He had no reservations about donations in the form of cash to that school, and afterwards told us that it would be used for a technology need they had at the school. A few folks brought pencils and paper and such.

  • We brought pencils, colored pencils, notebooks, and some easy readers in English. The head teacher was very appreciative of all of it especially the books. One person brought deflated soccer balls and a pump. THey were a big hit

  • We brought 2 backpacks full of all kinds of school supplies. My granddaughter felt so proud to be able to present them to the teacher and the class.

  • Thank you all for sharing your experience and all the suggestions. Was the school visit early on in the trip? I think someone had mentioned in a different thread that it was around the Ngorongoro crater visit.

  • I brought some soccer balls to the Masai in Ngorogoro area. Limited to small carry on, I asked if we could stop and get some soccer balls in a small village near Lake Manyara , we bought them all with a pump, and brought them to the Masai. I think the kids and the adults were very appreciative
