Steam train canceled in Brienz

We are doing A week in Switzerland in September and they have canceled the steam train and cruise on Lake Brienz due to storm damage. However I have researched and discovered that the damage has been repaired and train resumed. Does anyone know if they will amend the itinerary back to what it was? I called and the agent didn't know. This would be huge because they substituted a trip to a wood carving factory! :/ Not a highlight for sure. Thank you for any info.

  • Crumbs, what a letdown

  • I talked with an agent again today and was given more information. Tauck will not be adding the train and cruise back in the itinerary due to the fact that the cruise was not able to be privatized and the timing of the public cruises did not fit the schedule unfortunately .

  • We are also doing a week in Switzerland September 14. We’ve recently inquired about going back to the previous day 4 itinerary since the train went back in service and were looking forward to the Lake Brienz cruise . We contacted Tauck to inquire about resuming the schedule last week, but have not heard back from them.

  • We are thinking to forego the woodcarving factory and spend the day on our own, doing the steam train and lake cruise. Hopefully that will work out....

  • We are also going on the "Week in Switzerland Tour". We will be going to the mountain station At Keine Scheidegg to the Jungfraujock via the cogwheel train. Should one consider medication to prevent altitude sickness or is it not a worry as it appears we will only be at this elevation for the day? Yes we agree the woodcarving factory replacing the steam train and lake cruise was disappointing.

  • There has been much discussion about this on other threads. You and your physician are the best advocates for your own health. If you have concerns, discuss with her/him and/or your pharmacist.

Staying hydrated is important and if offered a light lunch at the summit as we were, avoid alcohol.

  • Looking forward to beginning the Week in Switzerland on Sept 28! The cancellation of the activities for this day in Interlochen was really disappointing. Hoping there might be some like-minded travelers on the trip who will want to venture out and find some outdoor adventure that day. Is it likely that the tour director will be able to help with plans? Seems a waste to be inside at a toy factory with lunch there as well. Mountains, Lakes, trains, trams, walking!!! Hope someone might be interested.

  • If you are looking for a very easy day trip: Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen via train and then head up to Murren and Gimmelwald. Numerous hiking trails or take the gondola up to Schilthorn. We walked down to the valley from Gimmelwald and then took the bus part way back to Lauterbrunnen
