Passports / Laundry

Hi! We're excited about our upcoming Great Migration tour. A few questions: 1) how do you protect your passport and docs when you are on this tour - are there safes in the lodges? what out in the mobile tent? and 2) where is there laundry services and do they do underwear and socks? Thank you for any guidance you can provide

  • There is always a safe place for passports and valuables. The laundry services does not include “smalls” i.e. underwear.

  • Just returned yesterday from Tanzania, Kenya, and Rwanda tour that included walking with gorillas. Fantastic trip. Superlatives are not strong enough to describe our experience. All the resorts used by Taulk were 4 star or greater. All had safes and offered laundry service at reasonable prices. We sent out socks and underwear without a problem. We don't normally send out laundry when we travel because of the expense, but you get a lot of dust and grime on this type of trip, so we did and found the service was quick and reasonable in price. You are only at most resorts for two nights. We would send out laundry in the morning and have it back by late afternoon or evening.

  • The Migration tour is very different with more mobile type accommodation. I haven’t been on this tour so I can’t talk about the accommodations. We have been to sub Saharan Africa nine times, this tour is too expensive and it’s a very busy time to go.

  • I'm not sure what you mean when you say "mobile type accommodations," but there was nothing mobile about the resorts we stayed in. Yes, one resort had tents, but the main lodge was luxurious and the "tents" had a bathroom and shower, and the only significant difference is that you entered through a zippered flap rather than a door. They were very nice with regular beds and electrical outlets inside.

  • John, you say you were on the K and T and Rwanda tour, that is not the same tour as the Great Migration. I’ve taken the tour you took in 2019.

  • Since Tauck, in my experience, always seeks to include the very best available accommodations on its tours, I assumed that our tour, which was a combination of a Great Migration tour with the walk with Gorillas add on, would use similar safari resorts. Didn't realize that Tauck offered a cheaper version for "The Great Migration."

  • John, the K and T Rwanda tour is not considered a Great migration tour. The Tauck Migration tour is very expensive and two of the camps are semi permanent. Theorize is designed to positively seek out the migrating animals wherever they might be. You may indeed see some migrating animals if you are lucky with your tour, but it can vary a lot because it depends on the rains which more and more are not as reliable.

  • Well, I guess we were really lucky because we saw a lot of animals on our recent trip. It was thoroughly amazing. The only animal we did not see was a leopard. The guides were terrific in finding the animals.
