We have not been on an Antarctica tour, but we spent a couple of nights in Ushuaia on a Patagonia tour earlier this year. It’s an interesting town and can get quite busy with tourists. There are museums, great restaurants and lots of tourist shops. It’s also a very hilly town. The best restaurants are often up the hilly side streets. We had some rain while we were there. Here are some random photos
When I did the Antarctic cruise - with another company - they had a problem that I suppose is common to many of the cruises.
They need to get you off the boat so they can prepare it for the next group. But the next group is not arriving until sometime after noon. They have to be transported from the origin hotel to the airport, board the charter flight, and fly to the southern tip of South America. That means they won't arrive until after noon, maybe 2pm. So the cruise line has to do something with the departing passengers until that time. I was told that the airport did not want the group delivered early to hang around the airport. So they put us on a bus and drove us around the city until they could take us to the airport. I don't remember how lunch was handled - I think we had to buy our own lunch at the airport.
Then it was wait, wait, wait for the charter flight to arrive with the new group. Eventually, they arrived and the charter flight took us back to the origin city. We had a flight out that evening so we stayed at the airport. Others, who were leaving the next day, went to the hotel. Your flight out of the origin cuty has to be fairly late in the day.
I know one cruise line has opend a hotel at their departure city at the tip of South America, I suppose to fix some of those problems.
We took this tour last year. After disembarking we had a bus tour with commentary and some free time to wander around Ushuaia. Lunch was served on the flight back to Buenos Aires.
Thanks for the info. We will get the "lay of the land" in the morning.
We are leaving the tour at 11:30 to do a few days in Patagonia. We booked the "end of world train" to see the National Park in the afternoon and just wanted to make sure that Tauck wasn't doing that in the am.
Looking forward to Argentina and Antarctica in late January!!
See if you can go to Tiera Del Fuego, we took a great hike there, it’s beautiful.
To walk amongst penguins go to Isla Martillo. Only a small
limited number of people can go each day for an hour

Thank you for all the great pictures, British.
I wondered where Tauck takes us after we disembark from the cruise ship?
Does anyone know?
