Budapest to the Black Sea excursions
We are sailing this coming spring 2026 on the Budapest to the Black Sea trip, and would appreciate any reviews on the excursion to
Targoviste, Vlad Tepes, and Ceausescu.
We’re just looking for a choice that doesn’t involve such a long travel day.
We’ve seen Peles and Bran mentioned often but not much on the third choice.
Look forward to any input with this decision.

We are also doing this tour. If you look through other posts on the forum folks have shared thoughts on the 3 excursions.
I think the choices are personal preference, but I am planning on doing the peles castle. We are also going in April on this tour. Maybe we will see you all there
Peles was indeed fascinating. If I remember correctly, there are current residents who live in the castle.
We planned to do Peles only to find out at the last moment it wasn’t open due to a holiday and an alternate, much lesser palace was substituted.

Peles Castle is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. Tauck mentions an alternative castle for tours that land on those days (our tour day is impacted). The substitute castle is definitely not as impressive from what I have seen. Hoping that Tauck at least takes us to the exterior of Peles before heading to the substitute but we shall see. I have no interest in Braun Castle or Dracula or the overload of tourists nor am I interested in another city tour. So it will be Peles substitute for us or we will just stay behind and chill.
When I got the Peles substitute there was no drive by viewing of Peles. It was the alternate palace and then lunch at a local hotel before heading back to Bucharest.
Smiling Sam. What did you think of the alternate palace. And the lunch. Is the scenery worth the drive? Do you regret not going to Braun or the other excursion? Such a long drive. Really need to think about this one.
