We did not need anything to fly out except passport, but the was two years ago. A quick tip though. We were there on our own so a Tauck airport transfer was not an option. The hotel can give you a free pass to ride the bus and trams around Basel. Bus #50 runs from in front of the main train station and leaves about every 15 minutes. It is free with the pass and the ride is about 20 minutes. It drops you off in front of the airport and it is a very short walk to the ticket counter.

Unless recently changed, ETIAS does not start until late 2026. And nothing is required when departing Basel…other than your passport.
I just checked. Even if it does start 4Q 2026, there will be a six-month grace period.
Hutch, unless you are an illegal immigrant you just need your US passport to get back into the US.
I have read that those over 70 years old will not have to pay for ETIAS
