Tips Included vs Tips Not Included?

Anyone know why on some tours tips are included while on other tours tips aren't included? Personally tips being included is much better. It's always a hassle to scramble for the tip money at the end of a tour.

SmilingSam - Tips on land tours vs river/ship trips are different due to the many people you deal with on the river/ship cruises. On land, you have generally one Tour Director and a driver, hence tipping two people is quite easy and allows for flexibility in amount - a good director can earn more (and a good driver as well). On river/ship cruises, you have alot of moving parts - usually 3 or 4 tour directors, a cruise ship director, ship personnel and bus drivers (3 or 4 depending on size of group for local day trips off the ship). It is much easier for Tauck to include tip money for those type trips rather than guests having to tip all these people individually. That's the way it was explained to us after having done a few land trips before we did our first river cruise. Make sense?

Thanks for your explanation. We had concluded this looking at all the different tours. The common thread was cruise related tours had all tips included. Land based tours didn't include the tip for the Tour Director.
