Bern is an easy day trip from Basel. We actually stayed in Bern for 3 nights at the end of our Rhine & Moselle cruise last May. Lots to do in Bern; you can look it up on TripAdvisor. Lucerne is another great option. They are both about an hour train ride away.

    If a stop at Boppard is on your itinerary take the chairlift to the hilltop for a great view of the river. There isn't a lot to see in the town besides a small patch of roman ruins and a few shops. The ride up was fun and there is a restaurant open in summer for a drink or lunch.

    Be prepared for a fair amount of bus time on this cruise. Very few of the sites are right where the ship docks. Boppard being an exception.
