Bean bag for photography

I'm planning to use a bean bag when shooting from the van. Will rice or beans be available for purchase in Arusha, or should I pack some? Would prefer to avoid the extra weight/volume when packing

    You do NOT want to go shopping in Arusha. Trust me. The only way you could buy something to stuff in the beanbag is if you arrive in Arusha early and you are there for the Saturday market. We walked to this market, but it is only once a week.

    I bought a beanbag called Red Pod over the internet. It was very inexpensive. It screws onto your camera via the tripod hole on the bottom, so you can't lose it. It was perfect for stabilizing the camera on either the windowsill of the vehicle or up on the roof. It did not weigh very much, and I got great photos!
