For those who have Global Entry ~ This new, free app by the TTP allows you to bypass the Global Entry kiosks on arrival & go straight to an Officer for processing. It's only good at 7 airports for now, but the plan is to extend it in the future.

Thx Terrilynn. We’re returning thru LAX in November from our Australia/New Zealand trip. This will be a big timesaver. (Hopefully for both of us it will come to CLT and RDU soon!)

Thanks for posting. Not yet at my airport, either.

However, Global Entry has been much more streamlined in the last year or so. Now, they just scan your face at the kiosk. I haven't needed to scan my passport or answer any questions for over a year.

Ditto - For upcoming Essence of SA tour I will be returning through DFW, and it isn't one of the magic 7. Next year I'll be returning through SEA and it is one of the 7 so I should able to try it then.

You are right Jim. We breeze through passport control and then often wait an hour for bags at Philly No one tell me having priority labels on your bag helps, it doesn’t!

Over last few years, priority labels have helped me on all trips except one (Japan), and Cairo, I never got my bag . As a matter of fact, on my recent ESW trip, my trip home from LHR to DEN, my bag came out first! Only time that ever happened. I still had to wait at the carousel about 20 mins after exiting immigration.

Interesting news. We leave this Wednesday from Miami and return on 10/13. After reading everything about this app, I’m not sure there is any advantage? Maybe I will download it and try it, just to report back to everyone?

We came off a cruise in late 2022. We carried off our bags. We were in Ft Lauderdale and our global entry was just a face short. Very fast

I downloaded the app but am wondering how much time this will actually save. In June we came in through Seattle, which has a brand new international arrivals hall. We have Global Entry and there was no wait for a kiosk then on to an agent who said are you Mr. John S…. then whisked me through without any further questions. Same with Mrs. S. It remains to be seen how much time this will actually save.

The line for those without Global Entry was probably 100+ long. Our Global Entry has more than paid for itself. Our Global Entry is due for renewal next year which we will definitely do.

The kiosks are fast when they are working. We arrived at LAX last year and half were down. I'll use the app the next time I fly into an airport that's using it.

My husband and I used the global entry app on Monday at ORD. Very easy. The kiosks did not appear to be busy, but we bypassed them in a special line. While the plane approached the gate, I quickly used the app to snap my photo and obtain approval.

Thanks for the reminder, Lotusgirl. When this thread first appeared, my airport wasn't on the list, so I never bothered with the app. Now it is, along with many more.

I wanted to know if Minneapolis was on the list and found this page on CBPs website. It talks about the app and lists all the airports where you can use it.

According to the CBP website there are now 77 airports supporting the mobile app including Canadian and some international locations. I searched under Global Entry Mobil App Airports.
We used this coming back from K&T thru ORD. Much faster than the kiosks. Great thing to do while you taxi. We walked right through customs, no wait and never showed our passport, just the app. Over a hundred people in the regular lines and never even looked at the kiosks. As one of the other GE users said, “best $100 I ever spent” lol

I have Global Entry. When I returned to ORD February 2025, I was 5th in line to remove my glasses to have my photo taken before exiting immigration. No passport needed. I do not have any app. The short line moved so fast that I barely had time to remove my glasses before it was my turn at the portal. My family members do not have Global Entry but they use Mobile Passport Control - MPC. They must open an app and take a self-photo before going through immigration. At ORD they were required to show their passport. I waited about 20 minutes for them to exit immigration. I'm heading to Italy in a couple of weeks and plan to use Global Entry (no app) to return through ORD. My Global Entry will expire in November. Maybe I should consider saving on the cost of Global Entry and just use the free MPC app. Last year I returned 4 times through ORD immigration. Any advice on the advantage to Global Entry versus the Mobile Passport Control APP? Last time I was lucky and did not have to go for an interview to renew, but according to the US Customs & Border Protection site, I may be required to do so.

Mobile passport control does not include TSA precheck. This may not be a factor if you always travel business class.

If you're always travelling with people who don't have Global Entry, and you wait for them, it's less valuable.

I am in my third GE cycle and am glad I have it. I get reimbursed the $100 fee by my credit card (Chase Sapphire Reserve), but even if I wasn't reimbursed, I would continue with it.

Thanks for the tips Lotus & BKMD. I most often travel solo... premium economy. I do like the TSA precheck feature that is part of Global Entry. I have looked at credit cards that offer reimbursement for the Global Entry fee, but they require the cardholder to book travel through their limited offerings on their site. I prefer booking airfare directly with the airline. I find hotels suitable to my preferences through my own searching that are not offered on the credit card travel sites. I've gotten used to the ease of Global Entry returning to the US so I'll renew.

If you have an Amex Platinum card, you get reimbursement for Global Entry even if you don’t book travel with them.

Patrice - FYI, my Chase card does not require booking through them. It is an option, but I almost always book airfare directly with the airlines. Cards that reimburse GE generally have a yearly fee, some of which is offset by credits for various things. The two most popular premium travel cards that offer these benefits are Chase Sapphire Reserve and Amex Platinum. I'm sure there are others as well. You just have to figure out what works best for you. Bottom line, for $20/year, even if you pay for it yourself, I think GE is worth it for TSA precheck and expedited immigration, especially if most of your trips are solo.

American Express platinum is a benefit for Global Entry as well as Chase Sapphire without a requirement to book through their portal. I enjoy a lot of American Express travel benefits. There is always a learning curve to here system. I learned the hard way too through mistakes I e made. However, be prepared for the hefty annual fee. The benefits make it worth it if used advantageously. The same with Chase Sapphire. I also use the Marriott card. In Italy, 5 nights free using Marriott points - nothing wrong with that. Again, another learning curve.
