Is it better to fly to Auckland - then Wellington from SFO or LAX?

    Depends. If you take Air NZ (which I recommend)

    SFO is one big terminal and you can walk from your arrival gate to the international wing.

    At LAX, you might have to change terminals, which is a pain.

    We flew to San Francisco and then Auckland then Wellington on Air New Zealand, it's hard to fly directly to Wellington. We found the entire flight to New Zealand much easier than when we flew to Australia from the US

    We have traveled with ANZ to/from SFO and LAX. The terminal transfer in LAX to the Tom Bradley International Terminal is not really a problem. The LAX international terminal is outstanding. You have less weather related issues at LAX than at SFO (fog). We have flown the London leg as well and the to/from Auckland and on to Melbourne route. The flight to Auckland is really quite pleasant. Business Class on ANZ is quite nice. Connection in Auckland is very easy.

    Thanks, everyone! We decided to go through LAX on the way there and Houston on the way back to Des Moines. We will be traveling over Thanksgiving weekend. Tauck air people were outstanding and helpful!
