No laptop ban, but there will be enchanced security
Good news:
For those of you who may have missed yesterday's news, Homeland Security announced that rather than banning large electronics in the cabin, they would be requiring enhanced screening on all flights into the United States from overseas. That means that you won't have to put you laptops, tablets and cameras in the cargo hold (except for flights from those countries already subject to the ban).
The downside is that this will probably mean removing all of your electronics from your carry on bag and possible hand inspection. It also may mean the lines at security may get even longer and the security fee added to your ticket may increase. Given that Tauck always plans for lots of time to get to the airport before your flights home, I wouldn't worry about missing your flight as a result of longer lines.
Airports and airlines have 120 days to comply. If they don't, HSA may either ban all electronics on their flights or stop them from landing at US airports. Given this alternative, I would think that there will be complete compliance.
